Noctuidae Europaeae (Volume 8 p.58) says: "Hybrids between closely related species possibly occur more often than generally stated. Especially male specimens are found, probably due to several factors:, first, the male genital armature has many easily recognisable structures, which differences are easier to see than those of more uniform females. Second, in the Lepidoptera the males are homozygotic in the sexual chromosomes and the paired XX chromosome seems to provide a better survival, whereas the heterozygotic females with their paired XY chromosomes seem to produce more pathological specimens or lethal combinations". It is likely some of the examples show hybrid characteristics here.
