Knud Larsen states: The two main differences between botrana and reliquana/virulenta are:
1. uncus is widening and with a upwards curved top where uncus at the two other species socii is droplike and the top is with an indentation - biggest at reliquana
2. valva is narrow with two separate areas with thorns. The other two species have larger rows of thorns and the valva is broader.
Valva broad, long row of thorns nearly connected with the hairy area at the end of the valva. Uncus with indentation, droplike socii = reliquana
